The story behind
The song Negra Murguera by Bersuit Vergarabat immerses us in the sensory experience of a man who, after having a drink at a bar, observes a woman dancing to the rhythm of a murga. The lyrics, written by Juan Subirá, with music by him and Pepe Céspedes, poetically describe the sensations of this inebriated character as he admires the woman. The story culminates with the bitter realization that, due to his state, he forgets the woman at the bar, attributing the forgetfulness to his drunkenness. Vocal participation is not limited to Gustavo Cordera, but expands to backing vocalists Daniel Suárez and Germán Sbarbati, and even Juan Subirá himself, enriching the performance. Furthermore, the song features the collaboration of the Uruguayan murga group Falta y Resto, adding an authentic layer to the characteristic murga sound.
This piece, which is part of the band's fifth studio album, Hijos del Culo, was released in the year 2000. Bersuit Vergarabat stood out in the late nineties for fusing rock with American rhythms such as cumbia, tango, murga, and candombe, often accompanied by lyrics with strong social and political criticism.
