La máquina de hacer pájaros

When Charly García separated from Sui Generis, he sought a different sonic path, moving away from youthful themes to explore more complex compositions and elaborate lyrics. Thus, La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros was born, the first album by the homonymous band, which saw the light in 1976 under the Talent Microfón label. This work was conceived with a considerable budget, becoming one of the most expensive rock albums in Argentina up to that point. The visual identity of the album was also carefully considered, with the cover design by Juan Oreste Gatti and a comic strip created by cartoonist Crist that presented the band as "a progressive bird".

About the album

La máquina de hacer pájaros, according to DoReSol

The sound of La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros leans heavily towards progressive rock, although touches of folk can be found, as in "Por probar el vino y el agua salada." The presence of two keyboardists in the lineup, along with the distinctive voice of Charly García, contributes to this inclination towards the genre. The album's sound quality is enhanced by the presence of high-caliber musicians, including drummer Oscar Moro, who had already demonstrated his skill, and Gustavo Bazterrica, among others. This level of performance placed the band on par with international progressive rock benchmarks like Génesis and Yes. It is worth noting that keyboardist Cutaia joined the project once recordings were underway, participating in tracks such as "No puedo verme más," "Boletos, pases y abonos," and "Ah, te vi entre las luces."

The presentation of La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros took place between November 17 and 21, 1976, at the Teatro Astral. This release occurred in a prolific year for Argentine music, sharing space with albums by bands such as Alas, Espíritu, Invisible, El Reloj, MIA, Polifemo, and Crucis. All compositions on the album are signed by Charly García.
