The story behind
Cómo mata el viento norte, according to DoReSol
When Charly García embarked on this project after Sui Generis, he sought a more complex sound, moving away from youthful themes. Thus was born Cómo mata el viento norte, part of his first album with La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros, released in 1976 under the Talent Microfón label. The idea was to explore more elaborate music, and this song is a good example of that quest. The album cover, designed by Juan Oreste Gatti, featured a comic strip by cartoonist Crist, who presented the band as "a progressive bird".
This piece, with a duration of 2 minutes and 47 seconds, is a reflection of that new musical stage. The music, composed by Charly García, moves away from the more direct to delve into more intricate territories, marking a before and after in his artistic proposal. The complete album, which included this song, became one of the most expensive produced up to that point in the national rock scene.
