Eros

Eros arrived in 1997 as an album that condensed years of work into a more polished and accessible sound. Recorded in Rome and Milan with modern equipment for the time, the record balances warm ballads with rhythms blending pop, rock, and touches of Italian balladry. What stands out isn’t a single instrument but how the production —with lush harmonies and clean guitars— envelops the vocal melodies, something already present in his earlier work but here reaching a more rounded balance. Two songs set the album’s course even before its release. Cose della vita / Can’t Stop Thinking of You, his collaboration with Tina Turner, aired on radios worldwide and became an unexpected bridge between European pop and mainstream American music.

About the album

Eros, according to DoReSol

The original Italian version, with its catchy chorus, was already a hit in Italy, but adding Tina Turner’s voice in the bilingual track gave it another dimension. Meanwhile, Più bella cosa —with its acoustic guitar riff leading into an emotive chorus— became an instant anthem in countries like Spain and Latin America, where Ramazzotti already had a strong following. The reception was immediate: the album sold over two million copies in its first year and earned nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards and the World Music Awards. Curiously, despite its commercial success, the record wasn’t aiming to sound like the rest.

The lyrics, written between tours and recording sessions, speak of love, memories, and small everyday moments, yet without the exaggerated drama that sometimes defines the genre. Even in tracks like Se bastasse una canzone, where the melody is simple, the focus is on the vocal performance, which here sounds more relaxed than in his early work.
