Porgy

The story behind

Nina Simone recorded I Loves You Porgy in 1957, but released it in 1959. It was the first song that made her famous. She recorded it in a New York studio, and used it as a single. The song reached number 18 on pop and number 2 on R&B. The lyrics talk about a complicated love, of a man who stays with a woman who doesn't want him. Simone's voice makes it feel like she is telling a story. The song became a hit, and helped her album Little Girl Blue sell better. It is still one of her best-known songs today.
