The story behind
Nina Simone recorded Mood Indigo in 1957, but released it much later. The song was part of her first album, Little Girl Blue, which came out in February 1959. The recording was made in a studio, but the album was delayed by the record label. Simone was not happy with the treatment she received, so she changed record labels. In the meantime, the song became a single, and it was a hit. People listened to it a lot, and it became associated with a soft style, almost like a whisper. The melody is slow, with a touch of blues and jazz, and Simone's voice carries it calmly, as if telling a story. The song is still played today, and many people recognize it for its rhythm and atmosphere.
