The story behind

Incubus released Drive in November 2000, as the third single from Make Yourself, their third album. The song became their most successful single, reaching the top of the Modern Rock Tracks chart on Billboard in March 2001 and reaching number 9 on the Hot 100. The lyrics speak about fear, of how life is lived driven by it, and of the decisions made because of that fear. The production has a touch of alternative ballad, with some samples and a voice that stands out among the noise. The video, directed by Phil Harder, shows Brandon Boyd drawing himself, with an rotoscoped animation intercut with real scenes. The song remains a reference in the post-grunge genre, with a combination of elements that only Incubus could achieve.
