Privilege

The song Privilege, with its 3-minute and 55-second duration, emerges from a crucial moment for Incubus. After an intense touring period that followed the release of their debut album on a major label, the band embarked on the creation of their third studio album, Make Yourself. This writing period, which took place after exhausting their energy on the road, shaped a sound that began to explore new textures, partly thanks to the incorporation of Chris Kilmore on turntables in 1998. He took over from DJ Lyfe, adding electronic layers that would become a distinctive mark of the group.

Make Yourself, released in October 1999 under the Epic and Immortal Records labels, not only consolidated Incubus's proposal but also saw the birth of singles like Pardon Me, Stellar, and Drive. These tracks resonated on the charts, reaching the top positions in Billboard's Alternative Songs category. In fact, Drive became a milestone, topping that list and also managing to be the band's only track to date to enter the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The production of this album was a joint effort by the band itself along with Scott Litt, who also handled the mixing with Rick Will, seeking a sound that reflected the evolution of these musicians formed in Calabasas, California, in 1991.
