Cuéntame una historia original

In Tell me an original story, Jorge González turns inward. The lyrics, as he himself has commented, are a rather personal reflection, setting aside the social themes that characterized Los Prisioneros in their early days. Here, the complaint is directed at those who believe they possess vital wisdom simply by claiming to suffer more than anyone else, without realizing their own naivety. There is a nod to Pet Shop Boys in the chorus structure, and the commune of San Miguel, the place where the band took its first steps, is also mentioned, as well as a reference to the song Amiga.

This track, included in the 1990 album Corazones, marked a significant sonic shift for Los Prisioneros. Recorded in Los Angeles, it was the first time the band worked outside of Chile, with Gustavo Santaolalla on production and Aníbal Kerpel as associate producer. The sound moved away from guitar-driven rock and punk-tinged new wave to explore a more polished synth-pop, with influences of dance-pop, house, and electro-disco. Jorge González took the creative reins more decisively on this project.
