Survivor

When we think of Survivor, a powerful sound, rhythm-driving guitars, and sing-along choruses likely come to mind. The band was formed in 1978 in Chicago, with Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan as the cornerstones. From their beginnings, they sought a sound that would resonate, and they achieved it in the 1980s, placing five songs in the top ten most listened to in the United States. Their first album, *Survivor*, was released in 1979, but it was with *Premonition* in 1981 that they began to see the fruits, managing to get a track like *Poor Man's Son* into the Top 40.

The big leap came in 1982, when Sylvester Stallone heard *Poor Man's Son* and looked for something similar for his film *Rocky III*. The result was *Eye of the Tiger*, a track that not only became the film's anthem but also dominated the US charts for six weeks. This success catapulted the album of the same name, *Eye of the Tiger*, which reached second place on their country's charts and won a Grammy Award. The band also explored other soundtracks, such as in 1984 with *The Moment of Truth* for *The Karate Kid*.

More about Survivor

Biography

The trajectory of Survivor was marked by changes in lead vocals. Dave Bickler was the singer on their first four albums, but he had to leave the band in 1983 due to vocal issues. It was then that Jimi Jamison took the microphone, lending his voice to hits like *High on You*, *The Search Is Over*, and *Burning Heart*, and leading the album *Vital Signs* in 1984, which put them back in the top positions. The band had several reunion phases, with Bickler and Jamison alternating or sharing roles, until Jamison's passing in 2014. Their last studio work was *Reach* in 2006.
