Survivor

Survivor got its start in Chicago in 1978, with Jim Peterik, Frankie Sullivan, Dave Bickler, Gary Smith, and Dennis Johnson. They would get together in small bars, playing without knowing they were destined for something bigger. Their first album, *Survivor*, was released in 1979, but it didn’t turn out as they’d hoped. Their second album, *Premonition*, released in 1981, did manage to make it onto the charts. A single, "Poor Man's Son," reached the Top 40.

In 1982, something changed. Sylvester Stallone, who was making a movie, heard "Poor Man's Son" and wanted a similar song. Survivor accepted the challenge. From that challenge came "Eye of the Tiger," the soundtrack for Rocky III. The song was a smash hit. It spent seven weeks at number one in the U.S., and also charted in the Top 40 in the U.K. and reached number one in Australia.
