The story behind
The One That Really Matters, according to DoReSol
When Survivor released The One That Really Matters in January 1983, they were already coming off a resounding success with the main theme of a very popular movie. This song, which is part of their third album, Eye of the Tiger (released in 1982), has a duration of just over three and a half minutes. It was Jim Peterik who composed it, and he himself, along with Frankie Sullivan, was in charge of production. The recording took place at Rumbo Recorders, in Los Angeles, with Mike Clink and Phil Bonnano on sound engineering, and Hill Swimmer is also mentioned in the recording credits. The genre that defines it is hard rock, and its distribution was handled by the label Scotti Bros..
Originally, Jim Peterik had the idea for the entire album to bear the name of this song. However, the band ultimately decided to title it Eye of the Tiger, in honor of another of their songs. The album itself performed remarkably, reaching second place on the Billboard charts in the United States. The song that gives the album its title was an even greater success, reaching number 1 in both the U.S. and the United Kingdom. The album, which includes The One That Really Matters, was certified platinum twice in October 1994.
