Sin Bandera

The sound of Sin Bandera was born from two voices that found in the guitar and piano a perfect bridge. Leonel García, with his mastery of strings and melodies, and Noel Schajris, with his keyboard arrangements, discovered that their styles did not clash but complemented each other. The duo formed in the year 2000 in Mexico City, but their essence lay in how they made lyrics about love resonate regardless of language. They recorded quickly and naturally: in a single session, in a single day, they already had three songs ready. They did not seek to complicate structures; instead, they wanted the message to come through directly. The band's name emerged during a trip through Campo Marte, where only the mast of the Mexican flag remained; the idea of "sin bandera" (without a flag) reflected their belief that music and love know no borders.

Their first album, Sin Bandera, released in March 2002, put them on the map immediately. The single «Entra en mi vida» became the theme of the telenovela Cuando seas mía, but what was interesting was not just the commercial success —which exceeded a million copies and earned them a platinum disc in Mexico— but how that song captured the emotion of a first encounter. «Kilómetros» and «Sirena» strengthened their connection with young audiences, taking their music to countries like Spain, Argentina, and the United States. That same year, at the Latin Grammy Awards, they won Best Album by a Duo or Group with Vocal, an award they did not plan for, but which confirmed that their formula worked.

More about Sin Bandera

Biography

In 2003, the song «Amor real» led them to collaborate with producer Carla Estrada for another telenovela, while their second album, De viaje, spent sixteen weeks on the Billboard Hot Latin chart. Produced by Áureo Baqueiro, the album included songs like «Que lloro» and «Puede ser» with Presuntos Implicados, where the blend of pop and ballads became their trademark. The following year, they repeated their success at the Latin Grammy Awards, this time winning Best Pop Vocal Album by a Duo or Group, and closed the cycle with a tour that took them through Venezuela, Bolivia, and Chile. Their music, without pretension, continued to reflect what their listeners felt: a love that asks for no explanations.
