Luis Fonsi

Luis Fonsi, whose full name is Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero, is an artist who has managed to connect with the public through a musical proposal that fuses romantic ballads with Latin pop and R&B rhythms. From a very young age, his interest in music was evident; at three years old he was already imitating popular groups, and in his adolescence, he formed a vocal group that performed covers of Boyz II Men. This path led him to move from Puerto Rico to Orlando, Florida, with his family in 1989, a period that, despite the language barrier, he faced with enthusiasm, motivated by the idea of living close to Mickey Mouse. There, at Dr. Phillips High School, he joined a band called Big Guys, performing at local events, and shared the stage with figures like Joey Fatone. His academic training was consolidated with a scholarship at the Florida State University School of Music, where he delved into theory, composition, and singing, and participated in university tours across the United States and London, specializing in music. Although he initially sang in English, his big break came when he was proposed to record in Spanish by the Universal label, an offer he accepted with the vision of being able to express himself in both languages.

The start of his professional career as Luis Fonsi was marked by the release of his debut album, Comenzaré, in 1998. This work not only positioned him on the sales charts of South America with songs like Dime como and Perdóname, but also earned him a Billboard nomination as "New Artist of the Year" and a gold record. Following this upward trend, in 2000 he released Eterno, an album that reaffirmed his connection with the public, taking the single Imagíname sin ti to the top of Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks. In this production, Fonsi not only participated in production and arrangements but also debuted as a composer with the song Mi sueño. This album was key to his recognition in Spain and Latin America, and allowed him to obtain another gold record for his sales. His versatility was noted when he participated in major events, such as the Jubilee 2000 before Pope John Paul II, and in charity projects like El último adiós at the White House, in honor of the victims of September 11th, before President George W. Bush.
