Jesse & Joy

Jesse & Joy sound like two voices that intertwine without losing their individual essence. Jesse, with his piano and guitar, sets the rhythm from the instrumental side, while Joy unfolds that warm and powerful voice that sets them apart. Their music blends pop with touches of folk and rock, but always with a melodic signature that invites singing effortlessly. It's not just the sound that defines them, but that ability to turn everyday lyrics into something universal, as if each song told a story that everyone recognizes.

The leap into the public eye came almost by chance. In 2005, a demo with their first compositions —recorded at home with borrowed instruments— ended up in the hands of Warner Music Mexico. The curious part is that they weren’t seeking fame, but rather to prove themselves as musicians. The record label contacted them a year later with a contract in hand, and in December of that same year, without having gone through radio or television, they performed Espacio sideral in front of more than a hundred thousand people at Mexico City’s Zócalo during the Teletón. The song, which speaks of dreaming big, became their calling card and climbed to the second spot on national charts in 2006.

More about Jesse & Joy

Biography

Their second album, Electricidad (2009), solidified their style: direct lyrics and arrangements that balance energy and tenderness. Tracks like Adiós and Chocolate played on every radio station, but it was with ¿Con quién se queda el perro? (2011) where they took a more intimate turn. Recorded in London with producer Martin Terefe —who had worked with artists like Adele and Radiohead— the album emerged from sessions where they blended folk, pop, and even electronic touches. Songs like ¡Corre! and Me voy became anthems, and the album amassed six Latin Grammy nominations, winning three, including Song of the Year for ¡Corre!.

In 2015, with Un besito más, they explored new territories. Recorded between Mexico, London, and the United States, the album included collaborations with Fraser T Smith and tackled social themes, such as the title track that reflects the pain of losing their father and the reality of migrants. The album reached the top spot in Latin sales and took them on tour across Latin America, Spain, and the United States. Later, they released English versions like Echoes of Love, which even caught the attention of BBC Radio 2 in the UK, where they highlighted their fusion of Latin roots with an epic sound. For Jesse, that leap into English felt natural: he grew up between two cultures and, as he puts it, 'together we are stronger.'
