In places like the United Kingdom, Germany, and Switzerland, it ranked second. The Recording Industry Association of America certified it diamond for surpassing 10 million units sold in March 1999, and later 13 times platinum in July of the same year. This placed it among the top 100 best-selling albums in the United States.
This debut album also received attention at major awards. At the 1986 Grammy Awards, Whitney Houston earned four nominations, including Album of the Year, and took home the award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Saving All My Love for You.
