The album, titled Morning View and released in October 2001, marked an evolution in the band's sound, moving away from nu metal to explore a broader spectrum of alternative rock, from soft passages to more intense moments. It was the last work with Alex Katunich on bass, who left the band in 2003. Songs like "Wish You Were Here" and "Nice to Know You" became standout singles, and the album achieved double platinum sales, becoming their most successful record up to that point. The recording process, which spanned from April to May 2001, was charged with emotions. Brandon Boyd, who was coming off two difficult romantic breakups, described feeling simultaneously excited, euphoric, and heartbroken, channeling those experiences into the music. Upon finishing, Einziger felt a deep satisfaction, like after an intense life experience.
This album, which was recorded at the "Morning View Drive" house, captured a particular energy. Boyd commented that the view of the ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway upon arriving at the street generated great creative spark for him. Even DJ DJ Kilmore used to exclaim, "Ah, Morning View! It's time to rock!". The production, handled by Incubus along with Scott Litt, spanned a total duration of 58 minutes and was released under the Epic and Immortal Records labels. In 2024, a re-recorded version, Morning View XXIII, was released, featuring the participation of new bassist Nicole Row.
