The story behind
Blood on the Ground, according to DoReSol
The song Blood on the Ground by Incubus, with its duration of 4 minutes and 35 seconds, presents itself as a piece that invites exploration of the sonic textures the band was developing. Recorded by Tom Sweeney as engineer, and with mixing handled by Scott Litt and Rick Will, under the production of the group itself along with Scott Litt, this piece is inscribed within the context of the album Morning View, released in October 2001. This work marked an evolution for the band, moving away from nu metal roots and exploring a wider range of sounds, from the softest to the most energetic, within the alternative rock spectrum. Morning View was also the last album in which bassist Alex Katunich participated, who left the band in 2003.
Formed in 1991 in Calabasas, California, Incubus consolidated with a proposal that fused Californian spirituality, funk rhythms, and the emotional intensity of nineties alternative rock. The initial core, composed of Brandon Boyd on vocals, Mike Einziger on guitar, Alex Katunich on bass, and José Pasillas on drums, laid the foundation for a distinctive sound. The subsequent incorporation of Chris Kilmore in 1998 added electronic layers that enriched the group's identity. Mike Einziger, in particular, stood out for his creativity on the guitar, combining powerful riffs with harmonic experimentation. The album Morning View, of which Blood on the Ground is a part, was a milestone for the band, achieving considerable recognition and becoming their best-selling album to date.
