Foreigner

Foreigner was released in March 1977, when the band still didn't have a fixed name. They recorded in two studios, one in New York and another in London, and the sound that came out was a bit of everything: hard rock, power pop, with that energy that gets you up and moving. It was the first album they put on the table, and three songs from it became famous: Feels Like the First Time, Cold as Ice and Long, Long Way from Home.

About the album

Foreigner, according to DoReSol

The band already had a couple of songs written before forming. Mick Jones, the guitarist, had written some, and Lou Gramm, the vocalist, sang them in an audition to see if they would get together. Then, between the two of them, they worked on others, including Long, Long Way from Home with Ian McDonald. Although McDonald only received credit for that song, he insisted he had contributed a lot to others, especially in vocal arrangements. Mick and he came to an agreement, but with some resistance.

The album was recorded with two producers, Gary Lyons and John Sinclair, who had already worked with other artists. Mick wanted Roy Thomas Baker, but he wasn't available. In the end, the sound came out well, although there were some clashes between the musicians and the producers. Then, they went back to mix the album in another studio, with more people involved. The result was an album that marked the beginning of something big.
