The story behind
When you immerse yourself in I Need You, you encounter a piece that invites introspection, with a duration of 5 minutes and 11 seconds. It's not a song that screams for attention, but rather draws you in with a subtlety that is felt from the very first chord. What's interesting is how it came about, as several of the compositions that ended up on Foreigner's debut album, Foreigner, were written by Mick Jones before the band even existed. In fact, when Lou Gramm auditioned to join, he performed three of those songs.
The recording of this first album, released in March 1977, was a joint effort. It involved the work of engineers such as Jimmy Douglass, Michael Getlin, Kevin Herron, Gary Lyons, and Randy Mason. The mixing, on the other hand, was handled by Jimmy Douglass along with Mick Jones and Ian McDonald. The production was shared among Mick Jones, Gary Lyons, Ian McDonald, and John Sinclair. This album, which saw the light of day through Atlantic, became the launchpad for singles like Feels Like the First Time, Cold as Ice, and Long, Long Way from Home, in addition to including other compositions like Headknocker and Starrider, where Mick Jones, guitarist and co-founder, takes on an uncommon vocal role.
