The story behind

The track Starrider from Foreigner's debut album, released in 1977, features an uncommon detail: the lead vocals are handled by Mick Jones, one of the band's guitarists and founders. This contrasts with most of the songs on the record, where Lou Gramm is the main vocalist. Jones had, in fact, already composed several of the pieces that would end up on this first studio effort even before the band was solidified. The recording of this album, titled Foreigner, involved a team of sound engineers, including Jimmy Douglass, Michael Getlin, Kevin Herron, Gary Lyons, and Randy Mason. The mixing involved the participation of Douglass, Mick Jones, and Ian McDonald, while the production was overseen by Mick Jones, Gary Lyons, Ian McDonald, and John Sinclair. This album, which saw the light of day on March 8, 1977, was the starting point for a band formed in 1976 by American Lou Gramm and experienced English musicians Mick Jones and Ian McDonald, who had previously been part of King Crimson. Successful singles emerged from this album, such as Feels Like the First Time, Cold as Ice, and Long, Long Way from Home, in addition to other tracks like Headknocker and the aforementioned Starrider, which has a duration of 4:03.
