Fun facts
Foreigner released Long, Long Way From Home as their third single from their first album. The song was written by Mick Jones, Lou Gramm and Ian McDonald. It was the third track to be released as a single from that album.
The story behind
Foreigner wrote Long, Long Way From Home in 1976, before forming as a band. The song was released as a single in November 1977, and was the third to be released from the album Foreigner. The lyrics tell the story of a boy who leaves his hometown to get to New York, looking for something better. Lou Gramm, the vocalist, said that it's almost like his personal story, because he also left his home in Gates, New York, for the city.
The song has a strong rhythm, with a clavinet that makes it sound different. It was a success in the United States and Canada, reaching top 20 on Billboard and top 22 in Canada. The band recorded it at the end of 1976, before the album was released in March 1977. The single version lasts 2:45, while the album version is a bit longer, 2:53.
