Evil Empire

Rage Against the Machine released Evil Empire in 1996, four years after their first album. The album came out in April, just when the band already had some weight. The title, Evil Empire, wasn't a coincidence. It was a phrase that then U.S. President Ronald Reagan used to describe the USSR. But for Rage Against the Machine, the meaning was the opposite. For them, it was the United States that was the real Evil Empire.

About the album

Evil Empire, according to DoReSol

The sound of the album was strong, direct, with that mix of rock and rap that defined them. Songs like Bulls on Parade and People of the Sun stuck in your head. The album debuted at number one on Billboard Top 200, which said a lot about its impact. It wasn't just the sound, it was the way they expressed themselves, with a clear message and no holds barred.
