La storia dietro
a-ha pubblicò The Blue Sky come brano principale del loro primo album, Hunting High and Low. La canzone fu registrata nel 1984 e 1985 nello studio Eel Pie, a Twickenham, Londra. Fu prodotta da Tony Mansfield, John Ratcliff e Alan Tarney. L'album uscì nel giugno 1985 in Norvegia e negli Stati Uniti, e poi nel Regno Unito e in Europa a ottobre. La band estrasse cinque singoli dall'album, sebbene non tutti raggiungessero tutti i mercati. The Blue Sky fu il primo, ma non ebbe molto successo nel Regno Unito.
