a-ha sacó The Blue Sky como tema principal de su primer disco, Hunting High and Low. La canción se grabó en 1984 y 1985 en el estudio Eel Pie, en Twickenham, Londres. Fue producida por Tony Mansfield, John Ratcliff y Alan Tarney. El álbum salió en junio de 1985 en Noruega y Estados Unidos, y luego en el Reino Unido y Europa en octubre. La banda sacó cinco sencillos del disco, aunque no todos llegaron a todos los mercados. The Blue Sky fue el primero, pero no tuvo mucha suerte en el Reino Unido.
