The story behind

Tenés que saltar, according to DoReSol

The song Tenés que saltar is one of those tracks that grabs you from the first few seconds. The song kicks off with a fast-paced rhythm blending sharp guitars and a relentless bassline, but what really stands out is that unexpected time signature shift right before the chorus. It’s no ordinary trick: that break adds a sense of urgency, as if the band were racing against something unseen yet palpable. Emiliano Brancciari’s voice enters with phrasing that swings between playful and defiant, and in less than four minutes, you’re already tapping your feet without realizing it.

The album Este fuerte viento que sopla — the second by No Te Va Gustar — was recorded between two cities: Santiago de Chile and Montevideo. Most of the songs were put together in Mariano Pavéz’s studios in the Chilean capital during March 2002, though Clara had its own session at La Zapada, led by Álvaro Reyes. The process wasn’t easy: between rehearsals at La salida de Abril and La Zapada, the band experimented with rhythms ranging from ska to reggae, through raw rock and even hints of murga. The result was an album that never stays still, and Tenés que saltar is the perfect example of that quest. When they premiered it at Montevideo’s Teatro de Verano in October of that year, it was already clear it wasn’t just another album: it had something that made you want to move, to follow the rhythm without overthinking. The mastering at Clio (Santiago) wrapped up the process, giving the track that final shine that makes it sound so alive.
