The story behind
Te voy a llevar, according to DoReSol
“Te voy a llevar” sounds like a journey where the band blends rhythms that don’t usually coexist in the same song: ska intertwines with reggae, murga sneaks between rock chords, and everything flows effortlessly. It’s not a collage of styles, but a song that progresses as if each section knows exactly where the next one will land. The bass and guitar take turns carrying the melody, while the brass — that trumpet and trombone — lend a festive air that doesn’t stay on the surface. The track doesn’t ask for permission to be heard: it bursts in directly, with a groove that invites movement, yet without losing the structure that makes everything fit together.
They recorded it in two different studios and in two countries. Most of the tracks were cut in Santiago de Chile, in March 2002, under the direction of Mariano Pavéz. Only “Clara” stayed in Montevideo, where Álvaro Reyes recorded it in April of that year. Later, the mastering was done in Clio, also in Santiago, with Joaquín García and Mariano Pavéz at the helm. The album it appears on, Este fuerte viento que sopla, premiered in October 2002 at the Teatro de Verano in Montevideo, and from there the band never stopped touring. The song itself lasts 4 minutes and 34 seconds, enough time for the rhythm not to wear out and the energy not to fade.
