The story behind
The essence of *Te extraño* lies in its ability to evoke a deep melancholy through a melody that, although simple, pierces the soul. With a duration of 4:24, this piece delves into the universe of the bolero, a genre that the artist Luis Miguel knew how to revitalize for a new audience. The recording of this track, like the rest of the album Romance, took place in Hollywood, California, at the Ocean Way Recording studios, beginning in August 1991. The musical direction was handled by Bebu Silvetti as arranger, who contributed his vision to shape these interpretations.
This record project, Romance, released on November 19, 1991, emerged after a change of direction. Originally, the intention was to continue the collaboration with Juan Carlos Calderón, but circumstances prevented him from composing new material. Faced with the pressure to meet recording deadlines, and at the suggestion of his manager, Luis Miguel turned to the bolero. This is how Armando Manzanero, a renowned Mexican singer-songwriter, was enlisted to co-produce the album with Luis Miguel. The result was a collection of twelve boleros, whose original recordings date from between 1944 and 1986, demonstrating the enduring relevance and emotional power of these songs over time.
