The story behind

The song La Mentira, with its 3:46 duration, delves into the universe of bolero, a genre that Luis Miguel explored deeply on his album Romance. This project, released on November 19, 1991, marked a turning point in his career, betting on bolero classics originally recorded between 1944 and 1986. The initial idea was to collaborate again with Juan Carlos Calderón, but the latter's schedule prevented it from materializing. Faced with the need for new material, and at the suggestion of his manager, Luis Miguel turned to bolero. For the production of this album, Armando Manzanero was summoned by WEA Latina to work alongside him. Recordings began in August 1991 at Ocean Way Recording, in Hollywood, California, with arrangements by Bebu Silvetti.

Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 19, 1970, is a key figure in Latin American music. His versatility has led him to perform everything from pop and funk to genres as diverse as jazz, mariachi, and, of course, bolero. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with five Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammy Awards. His connection with the American recording academy is notable, being one of the most distinguished Latinos and the youngest to receive an award at fifteen years old for a duet. His commercial impact is also undeniable, with sales exceeding 100 million records.
