Parararurau

The story behind

Gaby Amarantos recorded Parararurau as part of her album Rock Doido, released in August 2025. The song is part of a project that arose from her interest in exploring the cultural roots of her homeland, especially the festas de aparelhagem, musical celebrations that take place in the streets of northern Brazil. In the album, sounds of tecnobrega, funk, carimbó and Latin rhythms are mixed, as if one were living a live party. The song lasts just over a minute, but in that time it sets something in motion that cannot be turned off. The recording was part of a collaboration with the collective Altar Sonoro, which helped shape that flow of rhythms and voices that characterizes the album.
