The story behind
Creedence Clearwater Revival released Long as I Can See the Light in 1970, as the B-side to Lookin' Out My Back Door. The song has a slower rhythm, as if it had been taken from a blues. John Fogerty's voice seems to carry a story, as if he were talking about someone who walks without knowing where he is going. He says he will keep walking as long as he can see the light. The light has two meanings: one spiritual, as in the Bible, and another more earthly, like love. The rhythm is like a hymn, with a touch of church. Fogerty described it as something that reminds him of a solitary person who wants to be understood. The song became a classic in his concerts, both as a solo performance and with the band. The drumbeat was used in a song by Moby. In 2013, he recorded it again with My Morning Jacket. ↓ Skip to chordsIntro 1
