The story behind
Before You Accuse Me, according to DoReSol
When you dive into *Before You Accuse Me*, you encounter a story that goes beyond a simple rock song. The lyrics present us with someone who, faced with the possibility of being pointed out, asks for a pause and suggests that the accuser look inward first. It's a lyrical game of mirrors where defense becomes an invitation to self-criticism. The arrangement that Creedence Clearwater Revival chose for this piece, included on their 1970 album *Cosmo's Factory*, gives it a distinctive air. John Fogerty, in addition to handling the vocals, contributed on both guitar and piano, giving the song a particular texture that moves away from its origin.
Originally, this piece saw the light of day in 1957, written and performed by Bo Diddley. It was released as the B-side of his single *Say Bossman* and was part of his first self-titled album in 1958. On that original recording, Diddley was accompanied by Jody Williams on guitar, Willie Dixon on bass, and Frank Kirkland on drums. Over the years, other musicians also approached this song. Eric Clapton, for example, recorded it on several occasions; an electric version appeared on his 1989 album *Journeyman*, and an acoustic one was included on his 1992 album *Unplugged*. The Creedence Clearwater Revival version, with its particular approach, became one of the most remembered interpretations of this composition.
