The story behind

Sumo closes Llegando los monos with a sharp blow: Llegando los monos (reprise), an eighty-second fragment that works like a sigh before the silence. It's not an epic ending, but a wink that leaves the door slightly ajar, as if the band decided not to fully finish the song that gives its name to the album. The contrast with the rest of the album is brutal: where Llegando los monos explodes in nervous post-punk and raw lyrics, this reprise fades into a minimal loop, almost like a recording error someone left running. There's something deliberately incomplete in those seconds, as if the album needed a closure that didn't close anything at all.The album's recording in 1986 was an exercise in urgency. Luca Prodan and his crew recorded in borrowed studios, with equipment that didn't always cooperate, and the result sounded alive and rough. Llegando los monos (reprise) is no exception: it sounds like a rehearsal accidentally captured, with a drum track that cuts off and a guitar that fades too soon. There are no corrections, no overdubs, nor that obsession with perfection that would come later in Argentine rock. It's just the echo of a band playing without a net, at a time when local post-punk didn't yet know it would become historic. The album was presented at Obras Sanitarias that same year, but this reprise never had its own show: it remained a hidden detail, a wink for those who paid attention to the end.
