The story behind
When Luis Miguel embarked on recording his album Romance, the initial plan to work again with Juan Carlos Calderón had to be modified. Calderón could not compose for the project, and with a pressing deadline in his contract, Miguel, following a suggestion from his manager, decided to focus the album on the bolero genre. For this new direction, the record label WEA Latina enlisted Mexican singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero, who co-produced the album alongside Luis Miguel. The recording began in August 1991 at the Ocean Way Recording studios in Hollywood, California, with Bebu Silvetti on arrangements.
On this album, Luis Miguel reinterprets twelve boleros, whose original recordings date from between 1944 and 1986. The song *La barca*, with music by Roberto Cantoral, is one of the pieces that make up this work, which was officially released on November 19, 1991. Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1970, has established himself as a prominent figure in Hispanic American music, exploring diverse genres ranging from pop to bolero, including mariachi and romantic ballads.
