The story behind
The song Giocala, with its 5 minutes and 28 seconds duration, is included in Bollicine, the sixth studio album by the Italian singer-songwriter Vasco Rossi. This album, released on April 14, 1983, and also having a special "Picture" edition that same year, is one of the most valued works by both the public and critics in Vasco Rossi's career. In fact, in 2012, Rolling Stone Italia magazine ranked it first on its list of the 100 best Italian albums.
Vasco Rossi was born on February 7, 1952, in Zocca, a town located in the Appennino mountains, halfway between Modena and Bologna. His father, Giovanni Carlo, a truck driver, decided to name him Vasco to honor a prison mate in Germany. His mother, Novella, was a homemaker while his father traveled Italy with his truck. From a young age, Vasco showed an unconventional personality, far from established norms. In 1972, amidst student fervor, he became interested in experimental theater and enrolled in the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Bologna. However, he soon realized the vast difference between that education and his inclination for music. This gap, coupled with a singing contest won in December 1965 with the song Come nelle fiabe, led him to make a crucial decision: to abandon his studies to follow his instinct. This choice propelled him towards a new experience that would mark his career: "radio libere" (free radio). In 1975, together with a group of friends, he founded one of these stations, positioning him from the outset as a relevant figure in the music scene.
