The story behind
El rossinyol (The Nightingale), according to DoReSol
When Joan Baez recorded Gracias a la vida in 1974, she included a particular piece sung in Catalan: El Rossinyol. This album, released by A&M Records, became a gesture of support for the Chilean people. Baez conceived it as a message of hope in a moment of great difficulty, following the death of President Salvador Allende and under the regime of Augusto Pinochet. The singer-songwriter, always attentive to the realities of Latin America and a defender of human rights, selected for this work songs by Chilean composers such as Víctor Jara, whose life was cut short after the Coup d'état of September 11, 1973, and Violeta Parra. The duration of El Rossinyol is 3:05.
