The story behind
Demon Days, according to DoReSol
The track Demon Days, which closes the self-titled album by Gorillaz, presents itself as a hopeful conclusion after a sonic journey that addresses the shadows of modern life. The song, with a duration of 4:29, was built on a harmonic foundation similar to that of Don’t Get Lost, allowing both tracks to merge into an ascending musical climax. The atmosphere it creates aims to guide the listener towards a more optimistic space, a respite after the journey. The recording of this work took place at Studio 13, located in London, United Kingdom. The main production fell to Danger Mouse, with the collaboration of the band itself, Jason Cox, and James Dring.
The recording engineering and mixing were handled by Jason Cox, who worked alongside Danger Mouse and Gorillaz on this latter task. The album, released in 2005, featured the participation of various artists such as De La Soul, Neneh Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird, Roots Manuva, MF Doom, Ike Turner, Bootie Brown, Shaun Ryder, and Dennis Hopper. The lead vocals on Demon Days, as on other tracks on the album, were enriched with the harmonies of the London Community Gospel Choir, contributing that feeling of relief and reward.
