The story behind
Intro, according to DoReSol
The track that opens Demon Days, titled Intro, is a sonic gateway that immediately immerses us in the album's atmosphere. Its duration of just one minute and three seconds is enough to establish a particular tone, and it does so by borrowing elements from other creations. Specifically, it is a modified version of "Dark Earth," a composition by Don Harper that was part of the soundtrack for the film *Dawn of the Dead*. Added to this is a fragment of "Snakes and Ladders," a track that Gorillaz themselves created with Roots Manuva and which, although intended for this album, was ultimately not included. Curiously, that collaboration with Roots Manuva and Martina Topley Bird would later see the light of day under the title "Soldier Boy".
The recording of Demon Days took place at Studio 13 in London, United Kingdom. The main production work fell to Danger Mouse, who collaborated closely with the band, Jason Cox, and James Dring. Jason Cox also handled the recording engineering and participated in the mixing alongside Danger Mouse and Gorillaz themselves. This album, released in Japan on May 11, 2005, arrived in the United Kingdom on May 23 via Parlophone and in the United States on May 24 under the Virgin Records label. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are the creative minds behind Gorillaz, a British virtual band born in 1998, characterized by presenting their music and universe through animations and fictional characters, with Albarn being the only permanent musical member.
