The story behind
Cruces de Gin en Sal, according to DoReSol
This song was born in a moment of trial, when Fito was composing tracks for a soundtrack that was never filmed. Recorded in 1988, Cruces de Gin en Sal remained as a recording of those sessions, a document that later leaked as part of a demo cassette called Novela. Only 3 minutes and 19 seconds long, but with a weight that transcended its origin: three songs from this material ended up being reworked into other official albums years later. “As de Poker” appeared in Circo Beat (1994), “Novela” became “Nada es para siempre” on Fabiana Cantilo’s album Sol en Cinco (1995), and “Las brujitas” evolved into “Ay” on Piojos y piojitos (1991). It wasn’t a project meant to last, but it ended up leaving marks on Fito’s career before the artist reached his commercial explosion.
At the time, Fito was already part of the Trova rosarina scene, though his name had not yet resonated as it would in the nineties. The Novela cassette was one of those works that circulated without pretensions, unaware that some of its melodies would end up on more polished albums. The song Cruces de Gin en Sal remained there, like a piece of a puzzle that time completed. Today, when listened to, it sounds like that moment when an artist tests ideas without knowing which ones will survive. And some, like this one, did.
