Universidad Prix

This Universidad Prix that Fito Páez stored on a 1988 tape has something of a secret document: it was born as the soundtrack for a short film that was never released, but ended up being the seed of three songs that did transcend. The original version, barely three and a half minutes long, was trapped in a Demo called Novela, where themes that the artist would later rework under different names and in distinct contexts coexisted. It is a piece that speaks of those musical drafts that, unintentionally, end up defining an artist's path.

What is curious is that Fito composed these songs in the midst of the Trova rosarina movement, but this project remained in limbo due to funding issues. However, time proved him right: two of his songs slipped into later albums with changed titles —such as Circo Beat (1994) and Sol en Cinco (1995)— and another even ended up on a children's album under the name Piojos y piojitos. Although the original tape was never commercialized, its existence shows how art sometimes resists fitting into the formats that surround it.
