The story behind
Los Prisioneros released Corazones rojos as their third single from their album Corazones, released in 1990. The song was recorded in the United States, in Los Angeles studios, and stood out for its mix of rock and hip-hop elements. Only the chorus is sung, the rest is rap. At the end, a distorted guitar and a loud solo give it a stronger and more direct touch.
The lyrics talk about a relationship where the man imposes his authority, using money as a form of control. It also touches on themes such as misogyny, the objectification of women, and machismo in society. It was written by Jorge González, who had already addressed the theme in another song before. The video starts with a paper fight in a classroom, and then González enters, with a greaser style, singing alongside Miguel Tapia. Cecilia Aguayo also appears, and the video includes references to the Nation and patriarchy. The flag seen is not Chilean, but Texas.
