Stereophonics

Stereophonics is a rock band originally from Wales that formed in 1992 in the small town of Cwmaman, in the Cynon Valley. Their sound is characterized by a blend of alternative rock and traditional British rock, with a distinctive and raspy voice that gives their songs a unique touch. From the beginning, they have captured the essence of everyday life, telling stories of the Welsh working class through sincere and emotional lyrics. The voice of Kelly Jones, along with the instrumentation of Richard Jones on bass and Stuart Cable on drums, formed the foundation of their style, which has remained consistent over the years.

Their first major success came with the album Word Gets Around, released in 1997, which reached the sixth spot on the UK charts thanks to singles like “Local Boy in the Photograph” and “A Thousand Trees”. This album not only marked their debut but also established a connection with their surroundings, reflecting life in their community. Over time, the band achieved massive fame with Performance and Cocktails in 1999, which included hits like “The Bartender and the Thief” and “Just Looking”. Throughout their career, they have amassed numerous top ten singles, with “Dakota” standing out as their only number one hit in the UK, released in 2005.
