Mon Laferte, vol. 1

When Mon Laferte embarked on the creation of Mon Laferte, vol. 1, she wasn't seeking a polished studio sound. On the contrary, the album was born out of an intimate need and rather particular conditions. The Chilean artist revived melodies she shared with her grandmother in childhood, weaving a sonic tapestry that resonated with her own experiences. This record, officially released in August 2015, was conceived during a period of deep introspection for Mon Laferte, a stage marked by depression that would seep rawly into tracks like Tormento and Tu falta de querer. The recording itself was an odyssey: without resources, without stable electricity, using extensions plugged in from a parking lot, where cars would sometimes disconnect the power. It was a collaborative effort, sustained by the generosity of friends who lent equipment and contributed their talent to bring these songs to life.

About the album

Mon Laferte, vol. 1, according to DoReSol

The journey of Mon Laferte, vol. 1 began independently, with performances at Sala SCD of Plaza Vespucio in Chile and Foro Indie Rocks! in Mexico in early 2015. Subsequently, upon signing with Discos Valiente, a subsidiary of Universal Music Mexico, the album was remastered and had its commercial release. The original edition did not include Si tú me quisieras, and the track order was different from what we know today. The album's impact was notable; even more than a year after its release, it remained in the top digital sales positions on iTunes in Mexico and Chile. The success translated into multiple accolades, including Gold and Platinum records in Mexico for sales exceeding 150,000 copies, and a Latin Grammy nomination in the category of Best Alternative Music Album.

From this work emerged singles that resonated especially. Tormento, with a music video inspired by Marina Abramović's work, marked the beginning. Then came Amor completo, a ballad born from a feeling of infatuation, whose video recording captured an everyday day as a couple. However, it was Tu falta de querer that became the best-selling single of her career, a heartbreaking piece written after a painful breakup and deep depression. The reissue of the album, now under the Universal Music Mexico label, incorporated Si tú me quisieras, a song with clear Mexican influences, whose video was released in June 2016. The special edition of Mon Laferte, vol. 1 also included a DVD with the recording of a concert at the Lunario of the Auditorio Nacional.
