Un alma en pena

The story behind

Mon Laferte wrote Un alma en pena as part of his album Mon Laferte, vol. 1, released in August 2015. The song was born in a difficult moment: Mon Laferte was going through a depression, something that reflected in the sound and lyrics. He recorded the album under very basic conditions, without money or electricity at home. He would connect an extension cord in the parking lot of the building to use the equipment. That situation, so real, became part of the story he told in the song. The text speaks of pain, of a person who feels lost and does not find an exit. It's a slow song, with a rhythm that seems to walk, as if time had stopped. Mon Laferte's voice carries that emotional weight, as if he were speaking directly to the listener. The song lasts less than two minutes, but in that space there is a lot of weight.
