The story behind

The first time I heard Amor completo, I was left with the feeling that it wasn’t just a song about love, but about the intensity with which that feeling can arrive and disappear. Mon Laferte tells it from personal experience: she wrote it in Lima, in the midst of a relationship that burned fast and faded just as quickly. There are no detours in the lyrics; the song captures that moment when the heart beats strongly for someone and, without warning, stops doing so. What’s curious is that, despite the rawness of the story, the melody flows with a warmth that invites humming along even when the words hurt.

Recorded under extreme conditions, this song was born at a difficult time for the artist. The album Mon Laferte, vol. 1 was created between emergency lights and cables plugged in a parking lot, with no stable electricity in Mon Laferte’s home. Yet from that chaos emerged a sound that blends the nostalgia of her childhood with the rawness of her present. The single was released on July 31, 2015, before the official relaunch of the album on August 21 of that same year under the label Disco Valiente, a subsidiary of Universal Music México. What’s interesting is that, in its first independent version, the album had already included another song as a single, but Amor completo ended up being the one that marked the leap to a new stage. By March 2016, the artist shared an acoustic version on her Vevo channel, where the song stripped away all adornments, leaving only voice and piano, as if she wanted to show its essence unfiltered.

The video, directed by Carolina Dagach and produced by Mon Laferte, takes the story to another level: it shows the singer alongside artist Yseye Appleton performing a couple’s routine, from everyday gestures to intimate moments. There’s no forced drama; the camera captures the naturalness of two people who, like in the song, live love with all its intensity and fragility. At 4:02 in length, the track became a success that crossed borders and ended up being certified by Vevo—something not all songs achieve. But beyond the numbers, what remains is that immediate connection with whoever listens: a reminder that love, sometimes, doesn’t ask for permission to enter or to leave.
