El jardín de los presentes

Invisible released El jardín de los presentes in the middle of 1976, in the CBS studios. It was an album that marked a turning point in their sound, closer to tango and jazz. The band was already a quartet, with Spinetta, Machi, Pomo and Gubitsch. That change wasn't only in the lineup, but also in how they played and what they wanted to say with their songs.

About the album

El jardín de los presentes, according to DoReSol

The album started with a strange, tense chord, as if it were waiting for something. The first song, El anillo del Capitán Beto, was the one that stood out the most. It spoke about a bus driver who became captain of his spaceship, traveling through space. The lyrics had a touch of loneliness, as if the character were alone in the midst of all that journey. Spinetta wrote that song after reading El engranaje by Jean Paul Sartre.

The album had eight tracks, seven songs and one instrumental. On the original vinyl, all the musicians were mentioned, but on the CD Gubitsch was forgotten. Some of the songs became references, like Los libros de la buena memoria, which stood out in Spinetta's career. El anillo del Capitán Beto also became a song people used to refer to Norberto Alonso, a football player from the 70s. Spinetta never wanted that to happen, but the song ended up with that story.
