Tombstone Blues es un blues a toda velocidad, grabado el 29 de julio de 1965 en el estudio Columbia A de Nueva York, con Bob Dylan en un momento en que acababa de abandonar el folk acústico para armar una banda completa. Dura casi seis minutos y la letra vive en un territorio surrealista propio de esa época: una línea como "the sun's not yellow, it's chicken" no intenta explicarse, simplemente te golpea. El productor fue Bob Johnston, y el resultado quedó en Highway 61 Revisited, el disco que conecta simbólicamente Duluth —donde nació Dylan— con Memphis y Nueva Orleans por esa autopista del sur. Sheryl Crow la tocó en vivo en Sheryl Crow and Friends: Live from Central Park junto a Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan y las Dixie Chicks. También apareció en el biopic I'm Not There, donde Richie Havens la versiona, y se usó manipulación digital de la voz de Lyndon B.
