The story behind
Who’ll Stop the Rain, according to DoReSol
The song Who’ll Stop the Rain, with its 2:29 duration, emerges from an incredibly prolific period for Creedence Clearwater Revival. It was part of Cosmo's Factory, their fifth studio album, released on July 8, 1970. This record, which consolidated the band's sound, known as "swamp rock", demonstrated CCR's musical versatility. Of the eleven songs that make up Cosmo's Factory, six were released as singles in the same year, and all reached the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself dominated the charts, spending nine consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard 200.
Cosmo's Factory was Creedence Clearwater Revival's fifth album in just two years, marking an international success that led them to top the album charts in six countries. The production and arrangements of Who’ll Stop the Rain, like the rest of the album, were the work of John Fogerty, the group's singer, lead guitarist, and songwriter. The band, also comprising his brother Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar, Stu Cook on bass, and Doug Clifford on drums, was characterized by its fusion of rock and roll with the distinctive "swamp rock". Forty years after their breakup, the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival remains a pillar of American musical history, frequently cited as an influence for other artists. In 1993, the band was recognized with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
