The story behind

Watercolours in the Rain, according to DoReSol

When you immerse yourself in Watercolours in the Rain, there's something in its structure that invites you to pay attention. The song, with a duration of 3:40, was part of the Swedish duo Roxette's third studio album, titled Joyride, released in March 1991. This record came after their big international breakthrough with 1988's Look Sharp! and the independent success of It Must Have Been Love, which was included in the soundtrack of the film Pretty Woman. The recording of Joyride spanned eleven months in Sweden, a period in which the duo, composed of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, felt pressure from the record label to repeat their success. Despite suggestions to move to Los Angeles and work with American producers, they maintained their base of operations in their home country.

The production of Watercolours in the Rain featured the vision of Clarence Öfwerman as producer. Anders Herrlin and Alar Suurna participated in the sound engineering, while the mixing was handled by Clarence Öfwerman, Roxette, and Alar Suurna. The musical arrangements were the work of Henrik Janson. The album Joyride, of which this song is a part, received excellent reception from both critics and the public, reaching the number one spot on the charts in seven European countries. Roxette, formed in 1986, established themselves as one of the most impactful Swedish groups, with a career spanning over two decades and sales exceeding 75 million records.
