When you dive into Valió la pena, you encounter a song that invites reflection on a past relationship. The lyrics, written by Estefano and Julio Reyes Copello, paint a picture of someone reviewing the moments lived with a person, trying to understand the actions that led to the end of that connection. This track, released in late May 2004, was part of the album Amar sin mentiras and its subsequent reissue. Although Valió la pena had a prominent presence on Billboard charts in the United States, its run was fleeting compared to another of his singles, Ahora quién. However, the song proved its strength by reaching the top spot in Billboard's Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Songs categories, consolidating itself as a success within the Spanish-language music scene. The album containing it, Valió la Pena, released later, brought together seven songs from Amar sin mentiras with salsa arrangements, in addition to including the classic Lamento Borincano by Rafael Hernández. This discographic work was recognized as Best Salsa Album at the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards and Tropical Album of the Year at the Premio Lo Nuestro of the same year.
