Subsequently, his transition to salsa under Ralph Mercado's RMM label consolidated his career, with hits like Juan Gabriel's *Hasta que te conocí*. His influence extended to Spain, where he achieved gold records with Bat Discos. A milestone in his career was his participation in Paul Simon's play *The Capeman*, whom he considers a master.
